Thursday April 9th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: Today students continued to work with their groups to research and begin the planning/design for the instruments they will be constructing.
Homework:
  • DUE TOMORROW: Bring in some supplies that can be used by yourself or others in the classroom to aid in the construction of musical instruments.
7th Grade Math: Today 7th graders worked on their cabin projects. From pieces of cardboard they cut out 50 x 50 cm squares that will represent the "lot", or property for their cabin. They then calculated (using the same scale as their cabin drawings) the size of their property in square meters.
Homework: none

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders reviewed and corrected their homework from last night. The class was then introduced to how to purchase stocks and invest in the stock market. We went over how calculate the amount of money they have invested in a company based upon the price per share and the number of shares they own. Students then began "purchasing" stocks with a given amount of money. They will track their stocks progress through the remainder of the school year.
Homework: none

A CALL FOR SUPPLIES

***************************************************************************************
For the next two weeks 7th and 8th grade students will be working on a project in science to research, design, and construct a simple musical instrument. To help make this possible for students who don't have access to materials of their own we are asking for any donations of the following items: scrap wood, buckets, wire, old bicycle tubes, metal pipes, etc. By far one of the most needed supplies is scrap wood (in particular plywood). If you have any scrap lumber or old junk that might be useful in making a home-made instrument we would be very grateful for your donation to our classroom. As always, we thank you for your continuing support of our activities here in Shooting Star House.
