Thursday December 17th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: In science students continued their introduction to the periodic table of elements. In particular students are focusing on how many electrons are in the outer most shell of the first 14 elements on the periodic table.
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: Today students had a day to work on test make ups and missing assignments.
Homework: none

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders corrected section 4.2. Students received graded work and checked their updated grades. Following a discussion of high school level math classes and how students will earn "credits" in their courses, students reflected on their current grades in math. In this reflection they identified missing assignments, low quiz/test scores and specific things they will need to do over the final three weeks of the quarter (end of quarter is January 20th).

Wednesday December 16th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: In science students finished the Density of Spheres Lab and turned it in. Several students did not finish on time, thus it is homework for them and they will be expected to turn the finished lab in first thing tomorrow (Thursday). Students were then introduced to the periodic table of elements and the concepts of protons, neutrons and electrons. Students took notes today, and will apply the knowledge learned today to the activity tomorrow.
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: Today students completed the Chapter 3 test. As the students finished the test, they were broken into groups to work on a logic activity. We finished the day using the Flashmaster hand held computers, to help with their multiplication and division skills.
Homework: none

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders corrected section 4.1 worksheets, before working with the Greatest Common Factors. After some instruction, students were given a worksheet to finish in class.
Homework: Review homework #7 due Thursday. Section 4.2 worksheet is due tomorrow as well, if the student did not finish in class.

Tuesday December 15th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: In science students continued working on the lab to determine the density of a sphere. This is found by dividing mass of the sphere by the volume. The formula for volume of a sphere is 4/3(3.14)(r)(r)(r). Students will finish the calculations tomorrow and graph their results.
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: Today students began the chapter 3 test. Many did not finish, so we will finish the test tomorrow (Wednesday).
Homework: none

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders competed a series of logic activities before completing the section 4.1 worksheet, which will be due first thing Wednesday. In section 4.1 students reviewed prior learning of finding the Prime Factorization of whole numbers.
Homework: Review homework #7 due Thursday.

Monday, December 14, 2009

Monday December 14th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: In science students started working on a lab to determine the density of a sphere. This is found by dividing mass of the sphere by the volume. The formula for volume of a sphere is 4/3(3.14)(r)(r)(r). Students will finish the data collection (measurements) and calculations tomorrow.
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: Today students finished started the process of reviewing for the Chapter 3 test tomorrow.
Homework: study for chapter 3 test tomorrow.

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders competed a series of review activities and then launched into Chapter 4. In section 4.1 students reviewed prior learning of finding the Prime Factorization of whole numbers. They were then introduced to how to prime factor a monomial.
Homework: none (review homework #7 will be handed out tomorrow and due Thursday)

Thursday December 10th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: In science students continued their readings from the textbook. They finished sections 1 and 2 of Chapter 1 in the Chemistry text. If they did not finish both pages of the packet it is homework (students were to check out a science book by the end of the day)
Homework: finish reading guide for section 1.1 and 1.2

7th Grade Math: Today students finished section 3.6 practice and then began reviewing for the chapter test which is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Homework: Review #19 due Friday. Chapter 3 test is scheduled for next Tuesday.

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders completed a test over chapter 3. Once they were finished they had time to work on review #6 which is due tomorrow.
Homework: Review Homework #6 is due tomorrow (Friday)

Wednesday December 9th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: In science students took a break from lab work and did a bit of book work. We handed students a worksheet on chapter one of Chemical Building Blocks, and had students fill out the first page of vocabulary terms and review questions after reading section one in the book.
Homework: Finish graphs and questions for density of solids labs (#1 and #2)

7th Grade Math: In math 7th graders began the day with a Problem of the Day. After five minutes, students were then given another six minutes to finish up the section 3.5 worksheet on histograms from yesterday before turning it in. Students were then introduced to section 3.6 on being able to recognize and choose the proper data display when given a data set to deal with.
Homework: Review #19 due Friday. Chapter 3 test is scheduled for next Tuesday.

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders worked on the chapter 4 test from the book to help them review for their test scheduled for tomorrow.
Homework: Study for Chapter 4 test on Thursday.

Monday, December 7, 2009

Monday December 7th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: In science students continued working on calculations for density of colored wood blocks. The class was also introduced to the next lab in this series. In this second lab students will attempt to figure out what species of wood each of the two sets of colored blocks are constructed from. They will used their understandings of density of solids and given blocks of pine, cedar, oak, maple, and fir to answer the question.
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: In math 7th graders were introduced to "histograms" and how you can build a histogram and frequency table based upon a data set.
Homework: Review #18 due Wednesday

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders began working on a review project to help them with the upcoming chapter test. Students worked in groups of two to solve a multi-step equation. Each team is assigned to make a display showing how to solve ONE of the steps in the multi-step equation.
