Wednesday January 14th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: Today in science students read from the textbooks a section on the properties of waves. Students took notes and we discussed the important points from the reading.
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: Today students continued learning about finding equivalent fractions. Students practiced using prime factorization to write fractions in their simplest form.
Homework: Complete Section 4.3 practice (all problems due tomorrow)

8th Grade Math: Today in math we began chapter 4 by reviewing how to find the prime factorization of a number. The class was then introduced to the new material which involves factoring monomials.
Homework: Finish 4.1 Practice (due tomorrow): #1-14 all, 15-23 odds, 24-29 all, and 30, 31, or 32

Monday January 12th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: Today in science students had their final class period to work on their planet calendar projects. They are due at the beginning of class Tuesday.
Homework: finish planet calendar project (due tomorrow at beginning of class)

7th Grade Math: No math class today due to power interruption during 2:00-3:00 class period.
Homework: none

8th Grade Math: Today in math students started their test over chapter 3. Students will have some time tomorrow to finish these exams.
Homework: Continue studying for Chapter 3 Test

Wednesday January 7th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: Today in science students began working on a calendar of two different planets in the solar system. Students received a checklist of required elements to the project and we went over procedures to complete the tasks.
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students reviewed how to find the prime factorization of a number. The class was then introduced to finding the Greatest Common Factor of two numbers by using the prime factorization of both values.
Homework:
  • Finish Section 4.2 practice (#2, 4, 9, 10, 11, and 16, 17, OR 18)
  • Review #11 is due Friday

8th Grade Math: Today in math 8th graders went over several examples of multi-step inequalities. Included in these problems were examples of inequalities where the direction of the inequality symbol is reversed due to multiplication or division by a negative number.
Homework:
  • Choose any 3 problems from #11-23 of section 3.6 practice worksheet. Also solve #24.
  • Also, study for Chapter 3 Test (Friday).

Tuesday January 6th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: Today in science students finished working on a graph to illustrate how many times each of the planets in the solar system rotate on their axes over the course of an "earth week".
Homework:
  • finish graphs for speed of rotation & speed of revolution (orbital speed) of all the planets
  • finish graph of # of days on each planet relative to an earth week
7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students continued to practice solving problems relating to factors and prime factorization. The class completed section 4.1 practice and then graded it at the end of class to measure their understanding of the topics covered.
Homework: Review #10 is due tomorrow

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders began class by grading their homework (3.4 Practice-Solving Inequalities). The class then learned how to solve multi step inequalities. This included a learning the rule for inequalities when dividing or multiplying by a negative number.
Homework: Review #10 is due tomorrow

Monday, January 5, 2009

Monday January 5th

7th & 8th Grade General Science: Today in science students continued working on their studies of the speeds of planets in the solar system. Students began working on a graph to illustrate how many times each of the planets in the solar system rotate on their axes over the course of an "earth week".
Homework: none

7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students began learning about factors and prime factorization.
Homework: Review #10 is due Wednesday

8th Grade Math: Today 8th graders reviewed some of the material they learned before break (two step equations, variables on both sides of equals sign, etc.). Students then went into solving and graphing inequalities.
Homework:
  • Finish section 3.4 Practice #2-26 evens
  • Review #10 is due Wednesday
