Thursday January 27th

8th Grade Math: Today the class had some class time for the second test in the "Division Proficiency Tests".  We then introduced the percent equation as it is presented in section 7.4.

7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students continued working in the area of functions and coordinate graphing.

7th/8th Grade Science:
Today students turned in their Postcards Project and then watched a video on volcanoes of the pacific ring of fire.

Wednesday January 26th

8th Grade Math: Today the class went over division in word problems.  We then continued working with percents and decimals.

Section 7.3 Practice due tomorrow @ start of class

Monday January 24th

8th Grade Math: Today students finished working on their division proficiency tests during the first half of class.  We then introduced working with percents as decimals (Section 7.3).

7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students finished their division proficiency tests.  The class was then introduced to coordinate graphing.  Students worked with a partner on a packet to introduce and reinforce skills with coordinate graphing and functions.

7th/8th Grade Science:
There was no science today due to early release

Final drafts of volcano postcard project are due Thursday at the start of class

Thursday January 20th

8th Grade Math: Today students continued their division workshop.  Today's lesson focused on dividing with decimals and word problems with division.  Students then continued working with solving percent problems by setting them up as a proportion and then cross multiplying to solve for "x".

7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students completed a lab activity where they collected numerical and categorical data.  They worked with this data to help illustrate how to chose which type of graph to use when given a certain set of data (bar graphs compared to line graphs).
Homework:

7th/8th Grade Science:
Today students watched a National Geographic video on volcanoes and answered questions relating to the video. 
Homework:
At the start of class on Friday students need to have a rough draft of the writing (not the picture yet...) for their volcano postcards project

Tuesday January 18th

8th Grade Math: Today in 8th grade math students received their graded chapter 3 tests.  We practiced finding percents by having students calculate their percent score on the test.  Upon completing this activity it became very clear that students were VERY weak in their long division skills.  We will spend class time for the next week focusing on long division practice and we will complete a test to demonstrate proficiency in this area on Friday.  
Homework:Finish Section 7.1 Practice

 
7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students used class time to continue/finish the average population density activity that we started on Friday of last week. 
Homework: 

Complete average population density worksheet.  Be sure to answer questions in complete sentences.  

7th/8th Grade Science:
Today students focused class time on internet research for their volcanoes project. 
Homework:
At the start of class on Thursday students need to have a rough draft of the writing (not the picture yet...) for their volcano postcards project

Thursday January 5th

8th Grade Math: Today in 8th grade math students continued to learn about inequalities.  Specifically they learned how to solve inequalities with multiplication and division.  We will be having a test over Chapter 3 on Monday or next week.

  • Begin studying for test over chapter three (Monday)
7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math students worked on a chapter review activity to prepare for their test tomorrow.

7th/8th Grade Science: Today students continued to learn about continental drift and sea floor spreading.

Wednesday January 5th

8th Grade Math: Today in 8th grade math students learned about inequalities.  We worked on section 3.4 Practice in class.

7th Grade Math: In 7th grade math turned in Review Homework #8 and then continued to learn about the "Customary Measurement System"  (English System).  Students worked on section 5. 6 Practice which covers conversions within the Customary system.

Today in class we checked in homework relating to continental drift and then discussed the movement of continents through time.
